(Wattle)Bird Art

By Annie

Birds are nature’s little winged wonders. They’ve inspired a lot of great artwork (and obviously our fantastic logo).

One of my favorite creative blogs is paper n stitch, and they always seem to provide me with a healthy dose of bird-inspired art.

Fingerless Gloves

By Annie

Fingerless gloves are one of the hot items this winter. I like them because my iPhone won’t let me text while wearing regular gloves, so I don’t mind sacrificing cold fingers for the sake of texting.

I need to get moving on making a few pairs for the winter. Here are some that I like:

Etsy Update

By Annie

I just wanted to give you all an update on Wattlebird’s Etsy shop. I’ve listed several items for sale in the past couple of weeks. There are hats, iPod cases, and jewelry.

All these items would make great gifts for the upcoming holidays. Expect more items in the coming days!

Key Necklaces

By Annie

My weekend started the way all great weekends should – with a trip to the craft store. I bought some supplies to begin my holiday crafting, but while I was there I stumbled across a few really cute key pendants. So I’ve spent the majority of my weekend so far making jewelry instead.

Here’s what I have so far:

The first one is fairly basic. The key has a heart cutout, but it’s fairly simple, so I felt like using a ribbon kept with the feminine feel. To not be too girly, the back end of the necklace is a silver chain.

I added a couple of extra things to this necklace. It’s on a longer chain than the first one, and the key is a lot smaller, so I thought it would be a good idea to also use a heart pendant. Then I attached two shorter chains as well.

The last one is very simple. it’s the largest key, and I just put it on a long silver chain. I think I’m going to keep this one for myself :)

Holiday To-Do List

By Annie

I’ve always been a supporter of the “Christmas season doesn’t start until AFTER Thanksgiving” school of thought, but as we all know, the crafter calendar is a bit ahead of the regular calendar. Therefore, my official holiday season starts today.

There are a lot of things I’m hoping to make in the next month and a half. So in an effort to stay organized and on track, I’ve created a to-do list of projects that I hope to complete before December 25. I can’t make any promises that they will all actually get done, but a girl can dream.

  • Stocking Sets
  • Candy Cane Bark
  • Reindeer Antler Headband
  • Christmas Cards
  • Felt Ornaments
  • Gingerbread Latte
  • Gingerbread House
  • Knit Santa Hat
  • Home Decorations
  • Puppy Chow (of the Chex Mix variety)
  • Wreaths
  • Christmas Cookies
  • Christmas Cookies
  • More Christmas Cookies

I’m sure I will have more to add to this list as the days go by and I get more ideas and inspiration, but keep checking back with Wattlebird to see some of these projects come to life!

Crocheted Circle Scarf

By Annie

In the spirit of scarf season, I have another lovely creation to share with you. This scarf is made up of small crocheted circles in different colors and sizes. When put together, they make up this really cute quirky design.

Circle Scarf

I always get a lot of compliments on this scarf, and it was actually a lot easier than people think. I’m contemplating making a hat to go with it, but the design process is proving to be more complicated than the scarf was.

Day of the Dead

By Annie

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1 and 2. The purpose is to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away. If you aren’t familiar with Day of the Dead, there is a very unique style that goes along with the holiday.

I found some really great Day of the Dead inspired art on Etsy, so I thought I should share some of them with you.

Scary Snacks

By Annie

Every Halloween party needs some spooky treats. I’m trying to find some good recipes to try, and I found some really great works of art.

These bloody finger cookies are 100% vegan friendly.  Click the photo to view the full recipe.

Creepy Mozzarella Eyeballs

I know your Halloween guests will probably get enough candy, so why not include something that’s at least remotely healthy? These eyeballs are made of veggies and mozzarella!

Dry Ice Root Beer

And no Halloween party would be complete without some kind of dry ice beverage. I like this dry ice root beer recipe from Roots and Wings Co. Can’t go wrong with root beer!

This Little Piggy

By Annie

I’m really enjoying hat season so far. I just finished up another one: a pig!

Pig Hat

I used light pink yarn to make a pretty standard kid-sized hat. Then I used felt to create the eyes, nose, ears, and my favorite part – the curly tail!
